Senegal

Senegal is located on the westernmost point of Africa.  It borders the Atlantic Ocean and the northern part of the country borders the Senegal River. Senegal is known as the “Gateway to Africa.” Because of the location of the country.  Senegal is one of the most politically stable nations in Africa. Because of the stability, Senegal possesses one of the most developed water infrastructures on the African continent. Despite significant economic growth and decades of political stability, Senegal still faces serious development challenges. More than one third of the population lives below the poverty line, and 75% of families suffer from chronic poverty.  In addition, more than 60 percent of Senegal’s population is under the age of 25.  Senegal is comprised of 92.1% Muslims and only 4.8% Christians. In Senegal, 80% of the population belong to three powerful Muslim groups. Muslim leaders have a significant influence over all aspects of Senegal life.

Senegal, in the natural, is a hard nation to penetrate.  But GOD!  We are seeing Live School students going into this nation boldly to proclaim the Gospel and lives are being changed because of the Gospel!  It only takes a seed for life to sprout and grow!  But that little seed has so much power.  The power of a seed:  Disciples who make disciples who make disciples.  This is what we are witnessing in Senegal.  God is moving in a mighty way within this nation. Senegal looks like a lion’s head when viewed on the map. We and many others believe that Senegal reminds many of “the Lion of the Tribe of Judah” for a reason, that Senegal plays a key part in mobilizing West African missionaries into North Africa. With 56 people groups in Senegal, there are still 26 Unreached People Groups that must be reached!

All of our Unreached People Group statistics come from The Joshua Project, who’s whole mission is to bring awareness to all of the Unreached People Groups all around the world! Clicking on the link above that says “learn more” will take you to the Joshua Project website of that Unreached People Group.
