The Gambia

The Gambia, a country in West Africa, is situated on the Atlantic coast and is surrounded by the neighboring country of Senegal. It is a long narrow strip of land that surrounds the Gambia River. The land is flat and is dominated by the river, which is navigable throughout the length of the country.   The Gambia is Africa’s smallest non-island country and is also one of Africa’s most densely populated countries.  The population growth rate and infant mortality rate in Gambia are among the highest in Western Africa.  The population is young, with about two-thirds under age 30.  Over the years, conflict in other western African countries have led to an influx of refugees into The Gambia, many of these refugees coming from Senegal, Liberia and Sierra Leone.  The overall health conditions in The Gambia are poor due to inadequate sanitation and lack of access to safe drinking water. Malaria as well as other parasitic diseases and tuberculosis are common health issues within the nation.   The population is overwhelmingly Muslim in Gambia with the nation consisting of 29 people groups, 14 of those being Unreached People Groups.  Although Gambia is predominately muslim, the constitution provides for freedom of religion. We believe that God is going to do a mighty work in this small nation.  Our team is working tirelessly to reach the Unreached People Groups within this small but mighty nation.  We are believing for laborers to join our team.  The harvest is ripe!

All of our Unreached People Group statistics come from The Joshua Project, who’s whole mission is to bring awareness to all of the Unreached People Groups all around the world! Clicking on the link above that says “learn more” will take you to the Joshua Project website of that Unreached People Group.
