About São Tomé and Príncipe

São Tomé and Príncipe are two small islands located off the coast of  central western Africa.  São Tomé, which is oval in shape, is larger than Príncipe, which lies about 90 miles northeast of its sister island.  The country’s closest neighbors are Gabon and Equatorial Guinea on the Atlantic coast of central Africa.  The climate is basically maritime and tropical, Some of...the islands’ area, mainly in the south and west, is still covered with  tropical rainforest.  São Tomé is endowed with excellent conditions for tropical agriculture which is why the economy remains dependent on plantation agriculture, especially cacao.  The official language for São Tomé and Príncipe is Portuguese.   Like most countries in Africa, the nation is poor with unsanitary conditions.  Infant to children under five mortality rate is high and major health problems remain with HIV/AIDS, malaria, and food shortages. Access to drinking water and sanitation equipment remains incredibly difficult.  São Tomé and Príncipe has 6 people groups, all of which have been reached.  However, traditional African religious practices and beliefs are widespread, even among those who confess to be Christian. More than one-fifth of the population identify themselves as nonreligious..

What's Happening in São Tomé and Principe

There are so many people without a shepherd, in this small nation.  Although many claim to be Christian, the Gospel is not known in Sao Tome & Principe.  The harvest here is ripe however; it’s like grapes falling off of the vine, begging to be picked!  We have recently begun working in this nation and the reception has been overwhelming....  Live Schools have been planted and we believe that it will put fire in its students to reap that harvest!
