About Nigeria

Nigeria is located on the west coast of the Gulf of Guinea, and borders Benin, Chad, Cameroon, and Niger.   Nigeria has a diverse geography with climates ranging from humid to arid.   Nigeria is larger than the State of Texas and is Africa’s most populated country.   It is estimated that there are about 175 million people living in Nigeria   There are over 500 people... groups within Nigeria, which means that there are hundreds of languages spoken in this nation.   The Hausa people is the largest of the people groups within Nigeria.  The Nigerian economy is one of the largest in Africa.    Even with the country’s abundant natural resources of petroleum and natural gas, Nigeria is still considered a third world country and like other developing countries, has birth and mortality rates that are higher than the world average. Almost three-fourths of the population is younger than age 30.   Only about half of all Nigerian households have access to electricity, and even those who do often only have it for a few hours a day.   Nigeria's people struggle with inadequate supply of safe water and the high prices of many consumer goods. For the 70% of the population living below the poverty line, the imported food Nigeria depends on is simply too expensive.  Nigeria is rated as the most expensive country for expats (out of 61 countries).   Rent, food, and imported goods tend to be the most expensive items, while gas, local beer, and cigarettes are some of the cheapest.   Given the cost of living in Nigeria, income inequality in the country is high.   Seven in ten Nigerians live off no more than $1.25 USD.   Poverty is a huge issue within this nation as well as crime and corruption.  This nation greatly needs Jesus. With over 543 people groups in Nigeria there are still almost 100 unreached people groups..

What's Happening in Nigeria

The north of Nigeria is a hotbed for radical Islam. But in the midst of it all, we are training Christian missionaries. Amazing! We are systematically working through the nation from the southwest to the northeast establishing live schools, and now we are beginning to come from the northeast, also, which is the area of Nigeria with the most radicals. With over 543 people groups in Nigeria and the Gospel being penetrated... throughout the nation, there are still almost 100 unreached people groups in Nigeria.  We have recently introduced Farming God's Way to the people and have seen GREAT success.  In addition, Nigeria houses a large population of the Hausa People, which we are translating Live School into the Hausa language.  God is moving in a mighty way throughout this nation.

Please Pray for Nigeria

Please continue to pray for this great nation and believe with us that the unreached peoples would hear the Gospel and be set free from the chains of sin and death. Pray that the Hausa translation would be completed soon and that many woudl come to know Jesus!
