About Niger

Niger is a landlocked nation located in western Africa.  The Sahara Desert covers most of the land, which makes the climate hot and dry.  Niger lies in one of the hottest regions of the world.   Agriculture and agricultural products make up the largest sector of Niger’s economy.  The rural population comprises of nomads and sedentary people.  Salt is exported from Niger as well as producing uranium ranks among the highest in the world.   Niger is rich in natural resources overall, however the nation is one of the poorest... in the world.  There are over 10,000 villages throughout Niger yet there are practically no villages in the desert zone.  The largest people group in Niger is the Hausa People.  The general state of health in the country is poor and health care facilities are inadequate.   The infant mortality rate is about about 125 per 1,000 live births  and is one of the highest in western Africa.  Diseases, such as tuberculosis, malaria, and leprosy are high in Niger.  The lack of finances and shortage of trained personnel remain the principal obstacles to the improvement of health conditions. It is a predominantly Muslim nation, with only .19% Christians. here are 37 people groups in Niger, with 29 of those people groups being unreached.

What's Happening in Niger

Even with a predominantly Muslim nation, there is an openness to the Christian Message. Niger is one of the world's poorest nations and is in desperate need of Jesus.  We have recently begun working in Niger and are training national missionaries in the most difficult places. God is at work and we believe that even in a country that is unsettled, God is doing the impossible. ‍  The Hausa are the largest ethnic group in Africa and the second largest language in Africa. It is a diverse culture that spreads across Africa, but is largely spread throughout Niger.  Our focus is currently in translating Live School into the Hausa translation for many to come... to know Jesus. Although we have "boots on the ground" per say, we believe that the translation will open this nation to the Gospel and many will be saved!  It is an exciting time to watch this come to fruition.
