About Côte d’Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire is located on the western African coast. The country is made up of four natural regions: the coastal region, the equatorial forest region, the cultivated forest region, and the northern savanna region. Abidjan is the mecca center for most of Côte d’Ivoire. Due to its strong economy during the 20th century, many immigrants from impoverished countries to the north of Côte d’Ivoire migrated there.... Because of this, Côte d’Ivoire had one of the highest population growth rates in the world. Immigrants make up about one-fourth of the total population. However, more than half of the population lives in urban areas. In the wake of the civil war that began in 2002, thousands of people have fled the country and hundreds of thousands more were internally displaced. For many years, Côte d’Ivoire was financially stable, but the country experienced seven years of recession in the late 80’s to early 90’s. During that time the country was unable to meet its foreign debt obligations. In the southeastern region, most people live in villages and towns. This portion of the country is divided into small states, where kings and an elaborate hierarchy of ministers and palace officials are over their townships. However, these rulers have no official standing in the modern state. Birth and death rates in Côte d’Ivoire are higher than those of the rest of the world. Côte d’Ivoire’s population is relatively young, with about two-fifths under age 15. In the 1990s there was a great revival that gripped Côte d’Ivoire. But with the war that France had, the Christian President was ousted and replaced with a Muslim one. Since then, there has been an influx of Islam in Côte d’Ivoire. There are 109 people groups in Côte d’Ivoire with currently 36 unreached people groups still needing to be reached.

What's Happening in Côte d’Ivoire

We are trusting God and being his feet on the ground to reawaken the church to the task of the Great Commission.  We continue to be amazed at God's heart for His creation.  God is moving throughout Côte d’Ivoire and is raising up men and women to take the Gospel to their own.  Our Live School students from Côte d’Ivoire are actually going into other West and Central African nations to make disciples.  They are eager to share the Gospel and it's saving grace!...There are many things taking place in this nation.  Lives are being transformed and then going to share their story with others! God is GOOD!

Please Pray for Côte d’Ivoire

Pray against the spirit of violence that surrounds political unrest. Pray for Live Schools to start throughout the country, empowering church planters, especially among the growing Muslim population.
